Under Secretary of Commerce Gilbert Kaplan and Ambassador Michael Raynor hosted a roundtable with high-level Ethiopian government officials and a large delegation of U.S. companies in Addis Ababa today. The Ethiopian Minister of Trade, along with State Ministers for the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Enterprises, the Ministry of Industry, and the Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission all participated, providing overviews of the opportunities available for U.S. companies in Ethiopia. The group also engaged in a discussion about ways that Ethiopia can improve the business climate such as strengthening intellectual property rights protection, supporting the development of capital markets, ensuring access to foreign currency, and maintaining an open and transparent public procurement system.
