The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa in partnership with the Ethiopia Media Women Association (EMWA) are pleased to announce the launch of a project entitled “Supporting Opportunities for Professional Journalism” will provide training for local journalists on how to effectively report on key development-related topics such as health, development, and humanitarian assistance.
The program aspires to advance professionalism among journalists through providing skills to investigate development projects in a variety of areas and then offering them opportunities to use the skills they would acquire from the trainings by focusing on U.S.-funded programs.
The program will run from March to August 2018 and involve a series of trainings in Addis Ababa and 9 regional states.
Trainings will be open to all local practicing journalists and will be conducted by experts from relevant offices in USAID-Ethiopia, CDC-Ethiopia, and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.
Following the training, journalists who attended the training will be invited to submit proposals for funding to cover a project of their choice. At the end of the program, participants may submit their work for evaluation by an impartial panel of experts who will evaluate the work based on professional standards. The winner will receive a trip to participate in a regional journalism conference while runners up will receive equipment such as cameras and recorders to help them continue their work.
The first training program will be conducted from March 27-28, 2018 in Addis Ababa at the American Center located inside the Ethiopian National Achieve and Library Agency (NALA)
