The Government of Ethiopia has announced that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) launched missile attacks on the airports of Bahir Dar and Gondar cities during the late evening of November 13. These attacks indicates that TPLF forces have some intent and capacity to target areas outside of the Tigray Region.
Please avoid any travel to the Tigray Region, Northern Amhara (including Bahir Dar, Gondar, Lalibella, Woldiya, and Dessie), and Northern Afar (Semera and to the north), and if you are in these regions, shelter in place to the fullest extent possible. All communications remain cut off in the Tigray region. These events can cause a heightened risk of security incidents and instability throughout the country, including in Addis Ababa. Additional police activity, including checkpoints, may be present in Addis Ababa and elsewhere in the country. As always, remain alert when around town as demonstrations and crowds can form quickly.
Additional Actions to Take:
- Monitor local media for breaking events
- If you are stopped by security forces, stay calm and follow instructions.
- Avoid large crowds and demonstrations
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Keep a low profile
