The U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa / Community Grants Office (CGO) is pleased to announce an open competition to submit applications for community-initiated projects that support community self-reliance at the grassroots level.
Who is eligible to apply for the fund?
Strong preference is given to local community based organizations, associations or groups established to address specific needs/problems in their local communities. Other grassroots level not-for-profit organizations having community generated projects are also eligible to apply.
What kinds of activities are funded?
Self-Help projects can address any identified needs at the grassroots level in the areas of;
Livelihood, education, women empowerment, people with disability support, water and sanitation, health, and environment.
Activities must help improve basic economic or social conditions at the local community or village level and benefit the greatest number of people possible.
What is the level of funding per project?
The amount of funding for individual Self-Help projects ranges from $1,000 to $25,000.
How will applications be selected?
Proposals will be assessed on the following criteria:
Quality and feasibility of proposed project
Level of community contributions and involvement
Capacity of the applicant and experiences
Reasonability of requested budget and
Sustainability of proposed project.
What is the implementation period?
Ambassador Self-Help projects are expected to be completed within one year. The implementation will start on October 1, 2019 and end September 30, 2020.
