Location: Addis Ababa
Event: The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor calls on social media for protests at several embassies around Addis Ababa, including the U.S. Embassy on Friday, May 21. We understand that a protest may take place at approximately 10:00 at the U.S. Embassy. We urge caution in moving about the city given calls on social media for actions to condemn interference in Ethiopia’s internal affairs. You may see crowds or demonstration activity throughout the city, including but not limited to loud music, honking horns, groups of people on major roads, and similar activities. Large crowds may become unruly. You should assume demonstrations could occur at any time. We encourage American citizens to be aware of their surroundings and to limit movements around the city throughout the day. There may be an increased police presence throughout the city. For American Citizen Services questions, please contact us at AddisACS@state.gov.
