Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, August 16, 2013: Acting Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet will visit Ethiopia from August 14-21, 2013.  In July, President Obama nominated Ms. Hessler-Radelet to be the permanent director of the Peace Corps, pending confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

On August 19, Ms. Hessler-Radelet will meet with a new group of 57 Peace Corps Trainees who arrived in Ethiopia on July 3, 2013.  The Trainees are receiving instruction in Ethiopian languages (Amharic, Tigrinya and Oromiffa) and culture, as well as English language teaching techniques, at Peace Corps’s training site in Butajira.  After their training, they will be sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers and take up their two-year assignments in communities in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray and SNNPR.

While she is in Ethiopia, Ms. Hessler-Radelet will also visit currently serving Peace Corps Volunteers at their sites in Oromia and SNNPR.
